"Pop Stars"
2001
Hear'Say Pop Stars WINNERS
Hear’Say were a British manufactured pop group created in February 2001 from the winners of Popstars, an ITV reality TV show based on a New Zealand show of the same name. They enjoyed huge success with their debut single, "Pure and Simple", partly due to the huge amount of hype surrounding the ITV programme, the first of its kind in the UK. The group split just 18 months after their formation, following poor record sales of subsequent releases, as well as negative public reaction in the UK, not to mention a line-up change. They also failed to match their UK success overseas. During their short time together, Hear'Say sold nearly 3 million records worldwide.
The downfall of Hear'Say raised doubts about the longevity of reality-TV singers; however, it has failed to damage the success of the programmes themselves, as the current format The X Factor and Pop Idol features extremely highly in the ratings in the UK and abroad.

Liberty X Runners Up
Liberty X (originally called Liberty) were a Brit Award-winning pop vocal group formed from five contestants from the 2001 ITV show Popstars. The group consists of Tony Lundon, Kevin Simm, Michelle Heaton, Kelli Young and Jessica Taylor. The group went on to achieve ten consecutive UK Top 20 singles, and various charting singles worldwide.
Popstars
Whilst the five winning contestants of Popstars formed Hear'Say, the five runners up (who would have been the "backup" had there been a problem with any members in Hear'Say) formed the group Liberty. The name Liberty was chosen to reflect the freedom they enjoyed from not being under the rigid enforcements of the television company and record label that was put upon Hear'Say. Their runner-up status led to them being dubbed "Flopstars" by some commentators. However, this tag was dropped when they signed a multi-million pound record contract with Richard Branson's independent record label, V2 records and they soon became seen as a "cool" alternative to Hear'Say.
Shortly after forming, Liberty received a legal challenge in the UK High Court from a funk R&B band called Liberty who had success in the 1990s, won Capital Radio Band Of The Year, played Wembley Arena, toured Europe and released albums in the USA, Europe & UK. The original Liberty claimed that the new Liberty were taking advantage of the goodwill that they had created in the name Liberty (which in English law is the tort of passing off). The judge agreed with the original Liberty and so the new group asked readers of UK tabloid newspaper, "The Sun" to pick them a new name. The winning name was X Liberty[citation needed], though the group chose to use Liberty X.

Girls Allowed: UK Pop Stars (winners) ![]()
Girls Aloud are a British girl group created by ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group, consisting of Cheryl Cole (née Tweedy), Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, has become one of the most successful British pop groups of the decade, with a record-breaking 18 consecutive Top 10 singles (including three number ones) and five platinum albums (including a number one). They are Smash Hits poll winners, have won a TMF Award and have been nominated for two BRIT Awards.
Their British production team Xenomania are well-known for embracing various influences, from electronica, house, power pop and dance, among others. Indeed, the music of Girls Aloud ranges from the distinctly 1980s sound of "No Good Advice" and "Jump" through the 1960s sound of "Love Machine" to the more futuristic sound of "The Show" and "Sexy! No No No..."
Girls Aloud hold the record for the shortest time between formation and reaching number one in the UK Charts (with their platinum-selling début single "Sound of the Underground"), and have since become one of the few reality television groups to achieve continued success. Guinness World Records lists them as "Most Successful Reality TV Group" in the 2007 edition, and they also hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition, with 15 consecutive top tens from "Sound of the Underground" in 2002 through to "Walk This Way" in 2007. Girls Aloud have since extended this record to 18 consecutive Top 10s from debut — the most recent being "Can't Speak French" which reached #9 in March 2008.
For a contemporary pop group manufactured on reality television they have received unprecedented praise from broadsheet newspapers and the rock music press, with publications including the Observer Music Monthly[1][2] and the NME[3] giving their music rave reviews. The Observer has referred to "Biology" as the single of the decade.
JUNE NEWS 2008:
Girls Aloud to host BBC chatshow?
Thursday, June 5 2008, 09:04 BST
By Beth Hilton, Entertainment Reporter
Girls Aloud are reportedly in talks to host their own chatshow for the BBC.
The broadcaster has made the group an offer worth more than £500,000, claims Heat.
They will interview fellow celebrities in an eight-part special provisionally called An Audience With Girls Aloud.
A source said: "The girls are yet to sign, but they have all agreed to it. They would each be paid £20,000 per show. The band is going strong and they all want to commit to it 100%."
It was previously reported that band member Cheryl Cole had been approached to present a talkshow.

One True Voice - Runners Up
One True Voice was a British boyband created by the ITV television series Popstars: The Rivals, which also produced girl group Girls Aloud. The male runners-up formed Phixx.
The group, whose name was later shortened to OTV, was made up of: Anton Gordon (from London), Matt Johnson (from Hyde, Manchester), Daniel Pearce (from Kent), Keith Semple (from Larne, Northern Ireland), and Jamie Shaw (from Cardiff).
Their debut single, "Sacred Trust/After You're Gone", went head-to-head with Girls Aloud on December 16, 2002, for the Christmas number one spot. One True Voice lost out to the girls and had to settle for the #2 position. The group's manager, Pete Waterman, has speculated that the show was fixed against OTV, but has not said how.[1]
One more Top 10 hit followed, in the form of "Shakespeare's (Way With) Words", which reached #10 in the UK, in June 2003. A few weeks later it was announced that Daniel Pearce, who as arranger and co-writer of some of their songs was considered by many to be the most talented, had quit the group to pursue a solo career. The next day the group disbanded.
The group appeared at number 32 in Chantelle's Top 50 Reality TV Stars, ahead of both Phixx and Clea who also appeared in Popstars: The Rivals.

Phixx were an English boy band formed in 2003 from the five runners up on British TV show Popstars: The Rivals. The original members were Andrew Kinlochan, Chris Park, Mikey Green, Peter Smith, and Nikk Mager. From 2003 - 2005 they had four top 20 singles in the UK. They broke up in 2006.
Band history
In February 2003, they signed to Hyperactive Management, who had previously been successful with Liberty X. In October 2003 they released their first single, "Hold On Me" on the Concept Records label, which charted at number 10 in the UK, selling over 60,000 copies.
March 2004 saw the release of their second single, "Love Revolution". This sold over 50,000 copies and charted at number 13.
The videos and dance routines for their first two singles aroused media attention for their content, as they often feature the band topless or naked, often in sexually suggestive, and aggressive, situations, with dominating women.
The third single released in June 2004 was a cover of Duran Duran's "Wild Boys". During the release week, one version of the single was disqualified from the chart for being a few seconds too long, so the single dropped from the midweek chart position of 9, to number 23, however, an appeal was made to The Official Chart Board and both versions were eventually counted, giving a final position of number 12, selling over 65,000 copies.
Just after the release of "Wild Boys", Peter announced he was leaving to pursue a solo career and to give him more time to write music.
In autumn 2004 Phixx toured South Africa, where they were already very popular. They released their debut album Electrophonic Revolution over there and it became the number 1 selling album for their South African record company Sheer Music. The band co-wrote some of the songs for the album with Lee Ryan from Blue, Bryan McFadden formerly from Westlife, Alistair Griffin and Ultra and Theo from Liberty X. All the tracks were produced by John McLaughlin, who had worked with Busted.
In December 2004 the band recorded a Christmas song written by Matt Baker for the children's show Blue Peter. This song was available to download for free from the Blue Peter website for the weeks leading up to Christmas but was never released for sale.
In January 2005, they released their fourth UK single "Strange Love" (written by Judie Tzuke), which entered the British charts at number 19.
In May 2005 Nikk Mager also left the band. They continued to perform around England and Ireland as a three piece, and spent six months in the recording studio, writing and recording new material.
In November 2005 Chris announced that the remaining members of Phixx would be breaking up for good in 2006, in order to carry out their own solo projects.
Perhaps of note are a couple of appearances band members made on music panel game, Never Mind the Buzzcocks; during 2005, Chris Park appeared as a panellist on the show. However, in 2006, fellow band mate Nikk Mager appeared in the game's "line-up" round, where the panellists are asked to pick out a forgotten star from a group of five.
Phixx appeared at number 35 in Chantelles Top 50 Reality TV Stars, beating fellow Popstars The Rivals stars Clea. The video for Hold On Me was shown.

"POP IDOL((UK)) "
2002
Will Young: WINNER ~ YAYYY!!!
In February 2002 Young came to national prominence by winning the ITV television programme contest Pop Idol.
Contrary to press claims of being the under-dog, after having beaten the widely-accepted front-runner Gareth Gates in the final show, it emerged that Will had in fact gained the most votes in six out of the nine rounds of public voting. This was published in the "Pop Idol" book which was released shortly after the programme
Young's first single was a double A-side featuring Westlife's song "Evergreen" and "Anything is Possible", a new song written for the winner of the show by Chris Braide and Cathy Dennis. In March 2002 this became the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history, selling 403,027 copies on its day of release (1,108,659 copies in its first week). It went on to sell over 1.7 million copies, and in the official list of the all-time best-selling singles in the UK issued later that year it was eleventh. The song Anything is Possible also won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
Young subsequently revealed that he was gay, in order to pre-empt a tabloid newspaper that was preparing to run a story 'outing' him. He also stated that he had never hidden, and was comfortable with, his sexuality. This is explained in his book "Anything Is Possible", on page 229. He also reaffirmed this to the BBC.[1][2]
In the spring of 2002, Young joined his fellow Pop Idol contestants in a nationwide arena tour. The final concert at Wembley was in aid of The Prince's Trust of which Young is an ambassador, together with Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh, the runner-up and third-placed contestant in Pop Idol.
In June 2002, Young performed at the Queen's Jubilee Concert in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. His first song was I Heard It Through the Grapevine, followed by We Are the Champions with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
During July 2002, Young sang at two concerts with the renowned songwriter Burt Bacharach, performing the song especially written for him by Bacharach and Cathy Dennis, What's In Goodbye, as well as Wives and Lovers. These concerts took place at Hammersmith Apollo and at the Liverpool Summerpops event.
In August 2002, he performed at the closing ceremony of the 2002 Commonwealth Games singing Sweetest Feeling in the pouring rain. He was praised by the announcer Grandmaster Flash who said that it was not easy entering a talent show.
November 2002 brought an appearance at the Royal Command Performance where he opened the show singing a James Bond medley. In November 2003, Young performed the classic wartime song A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square accompanied by The Squadronaires, at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Following a sell-out theatre tour in 2004, Young appeared at The Olympic Torch Concert, performing a duet of "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" with soul legend James Brown. In the autumn of that year, he embarked upon his first solo arena tour, another sell-out success. He toured again at outside festival venues in summer 2005. On 6 July 2005, he performed at Edinburgh 50,000 - The Final Push, the final concert of Live 8, a charity concert in Edinburgh to raise awareness of the plight of Africa, where he duetted with James Brown once again and also sang with One Giant Leap, Neneh Cherry and Maxi Jazz.
Later in the year, Young met comedian David Walliams and the pair became good friends, with Young appearing at the Little Britain live stage show in Manchester, and later recording a podcast with Walliams, in which they chatted about various aspects of Young's career. The four parts are available on his website and iTunes.
In November 2005, Young appeared in his second Royal Command Performance performing a new song All Time Love for the first time. He was accompanied by pianist Howard Francis.
On 20 May 2006, he sang " Who Am I, "Leave Right Now" and "Love the One You're With" at The Prince's Trust 30th Birthday which took place at the Tower of London.
From 12 September until 2 October 2006, Young toured the UK with his "Keep On Live" tour, which included the songs taken from his album Keep On and a selection of past songs. The official merchandise range for the tour, highlighted by the press, included a "tip and strip" pen which, when turned over, reveals Will Young in his underpants. He also performed at G-A-Y nightclub in London on 30 September whilst in the middle of the tour.
On 27 October 2006 Will sang his song "Home", the closing track on his triple platinum third album "Keep On", at Nitin Sawhney's concert in the BBC Electric Proms series of concerts. He followed this by performing in South Africa for Nelson Mandela's Unite of the Stars charity concerts. Also appearing were Ronan Keating, Banarama and Shayne Ward. In December 2006, he performed at the Dolce Vita Ball in London.
He was nominated in the Best British Single category for his song "All Time Love" in the 2007 BRIT Awards. He has been nominated each year for the past five years. "All Time Love" made it to the final round of voting but the award went to Take That for their comeback song "Patience".
On 1 July 2007, he appeared at the Concert for Diana at the new Wembley Stadium. He sang Switch It On but the concert was running late and his performance of his hit song Leave Right Now had to be cut. He has also recently narrated an audio version of the Roald Dahl novel, Danny, the Champion of the World.
Young was the headline act at the Proms in the Park which took place in Hyde Park on 8 September 2007 as part of the Last Night of the Proms. He sang seven of his most recent songs, including Switch It On, Keep On and his multi-platinum single Leave Right Now.
On Sunday 23 September 2007, Young performed at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club with the Vanguard Jazz Band to an audience of about 300 people who received him with rapturous applause. In his first set he sang The Lady is a Tramp, the Grace Jones song Strange, That Ole Devil Called Love and Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby. In his second set he performed I've Got you Under my Skin, Summertime and Minnie the Moocher with the audience joining in the ripostes of "Hi di hi di hi di ho" etc. He finished with an encore of The Lady is a Tramp.
As at 2 November 2007, Young is in LA working on his fourth album according to his official site. He has already amassed a huge number of tracks from which he'll be making a shortlist for the album.
Young took part in the Little Noise Sessions, a series of intimate, acoustic gigs for the learning disability charity, Mencap. He performed on 22 November with special guests at Islington's Union Chapel, which is acclaimed for its ambience and acoustics. It was an intimate gig as the venue only holds 600. Other artists featured in the Little Noise Sessions, which ran from 21 November to 28 November include Athlete, The Hoosiers, We Are Scientists, Young Knives, The Pigeon Detectives, Snow Patrol, The Enemy and Keane. Jo Whiley hosted the events.
Young is to perform at various festivals during the summer of 2008, including Glastonbury, T In the Park in Scotland and Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
On Sunday 13 April 2008, Young again appeared at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club with the Vanguard Big Band. His set was very similar to the previous occasion but with the addition of Sade's Smooth Operator.
On Monday 29th September 2008, a new album, entitled "Let Go", will be released.

Oooh watch out for WILL when he has a very important date in February 5 on the UK's tv show - Question Time.

Question Time is a topical debate television programme in the United Kingdom, based on Any Questions?. The show typically features politicians from at least the three major political parties as well as other public figures who answer questions put to them by the audience.
It has not been broadcast live since September 2001, and is recorded earlier on the day of broadcast.
The current series began on 18 September 2008 and is currently being shown on BBC One at 22:35 on Thursdays (delayed by 30 mins in Wales). BBC One Northern Ireland usually does not show Question Time at least once a month, as they show their own local debate show Lets Talk hosted by Mark Carruthers. Viewers in the United Kingdom can also view the show via the BBC iPlayer.
Will Young will appear on BBC debate programme 'Question Time'

Pop star Will Young will take his place alongside political
heavyweights as a panellist on Question Time, it has been revealed.
The singer, who claims to be a fan of the BBC debate programme, will
appear in a February edition, according to the show's producers Mentorn
Media.
Question Time editor Gill Penlington invited Young on to the show
during a live radio interview after hearing him speak about his passion
for politics and say how much he enjoyed the current affairs programme
on BBC 5 Live.
She said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have Will as a panellist.
"He knows his stuff politically and it will be fascinating to hear him taking on the politicians about the big issues the day."
Young, 29, said: "As an avid viewer of Question Time being in the hot
seat is something I've always wanted to do. As the day gets closer rest
assured I'll be swotting up on the hot topics."
The Pop Idol winner, who went on to enjoy a successful solo career as a
singer and songwriter after appearing in the reality show in 2002, has
a degree in politics from Exeter University.
The show, on February 5, will come from Dunstable, Beds, and will be chaired by David Dimbleby.

Gareth Gates: Pop Idol Runner Up
Gareth Paul Gates (born July 12, 1984, Bradford, Yorkshire England) is an English pop singer who shot to fame in 2002 when he came second in the first series of the ITV talent show Pop Idol. Gates is also known for overcoming his severe stammer through the McGuire Programme[13], qualifying as a speech coach in 2004 [14]. So far he has sold 3.5 million singles & albums in the UK alone.
Gates' first single, a cover version of "Unchained Melody", entered the UK Singles Chart at number one, knocking Will Young's first single — the double A-side "Anything is Possible"/"Evergreen" — off the top of the chart. The single went double-platinum in the UK, and was voted 2002's Record of the Year by ITV viewers, but it failed to best Will Young's triple-platinum debut single. This was followed by another high selling number-one single, "Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)". His third single, "The Long and Winding Road", a duet with Will Young, also reached number one. His fourth, "What My Heart Wants to Say" reached number five.
Gates was at the height of his fame in 2002, with the now-defunct Smash Hits magazine dedicating 7 November as International Gates Day for his fans.
His debut album, What My Heart Wants to Say, narrowly failed to top the UK Chart as expected, having been held off the number 1 position by David Gray's 'A New Day At Midnight' album. It nevertheless went on to achieve first week sales of over ten thousand and double platinum status, and was the third biggest-selling album by a UK artist that year.
In 2003, Gates sang the 2003 Comic Relief charity single, "Spirit in the Sky", with The Kumars. This was also a number-one hit, staying there for two weeks. He also appeared in Comic Relief's Celebrity Driving School. Through Comic Relief, he became involved with Body and Soul, a charity that helps people affected by HIV and AIDS. He continues to be involved.
His next two singles "Sunshine" and "Say It Isn't So" reached numbers three and four respectively. His second album Go Your Own Way peaked at number eleven in the UK. It charted at number 1 and achieved platinum status[5] in a number of Asian countries.
Gates has enjoyed significant success outside the UK, particularly in Asia, South Africa and many European countries. He won MTV Asia's award for Best International Male in 2003/4 and was awarded the same title by MTV China and MTV Taiwan.
"Say It Isn't So", a 2003 number-four single, proved to be Gates' last single release in the UK until April 2007. At the start of 2004 he did an arena tour of the UK, then continued to promote throughout Europe and Asia, before taking a break and training as a speech coach and course instructor with the McGuire Programme.
He also had a part in the film Seeing Double, and increased his charitable work, promoting AIDS awareness through a charity concert to fifty thousand people with MTV in Indonesia.
To date, Gates has sold just over three million music singles in the UK alone, including the second and sixth best selling singles in 2002 ("Unchained Melody", which sold 1.3 million, and "Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)", which sold 570,000) and the second best selling single in 2003 ("Spirit in the Sky", 550,000 copies).
In 2003 and 2004, it was reported in the national press that Gates was being dropped by his record company BMG. The reports, which also cited low sales of his second album and low concert ticket sales as reasons[6][7][8], were denied by both Gates and the record company at the time. However, Gates was eventually dropped from the label two years later in April 2006 before the release of any new material[9].
Gates later appeared on a documentary called Whatever Happened to Gareth Gates? about his experiences in the industry and his life outside it, which was screened on ITV1 in December 2006. The documentary confirmed a new record deal with UMTV, part of Universal, and an album as well as showcasing snippets of the new material.
An early preview of his new music was given at a secret gig on 29 November 2006 where he sang tracks titled "Afterglow", "Pictures of the Other Side", "Changes", "Angel on My Shoulder", "New Kid in Town", "Lost in You", "Can't Believe It's Over" and "19 Minutes".[10] He has been working with writers such as Sacha Skarbek (James Blunt), Ricky Ross (of Deacon Blue fame) and Pete Gordeno, and has been produced by Martin Terefe, Jon Hall and Nick Whitecross.[11]
Since 2004 Gates has also been working extensively with singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke (best known for her 1979 hit "Stay With Me Till Dawn"). Initial contact was apparently made through Lucie Silvas; Gates' regular acoustic guitarist, Graham Kearns, also worked with Tzuke and has writing credits with Gates on both albums. Appearing at Crewe's Limelight during Tzuke's October 2004 tour, Gareth sang backing vocals to a surprised audience on Tzuke's track "Bully" (from her album Secret Agent). A song Gates co-wrote with Tzuke, "Dark Days", appeared on Tzuke's 2007 album Songs 1.
On March 30th 2007 Gates appeared on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, the first time he has participated in an interview for a mainstream TV chat-show since his speech improvement.
The first single from the new album was "Changes" which was released on 9 April 2007, peaking at No.14. His second single "Angel on My Shoulder" was released on 18th June, peaking at No.22. Both singles remained in the UK top 40 for only one week. Gates' third album, Pictures of the Other Side, was released on 25 June and spent two weeks on the UK album chart, entering at No.23 before falling to No.66 the following week, then dropping out of the chart altogether.
He recently appeared on ITV1's Dancing on Ice with skating partner Maria Filippov, losing a place in the final to Zaraah Abrahams and dancing partner Fred Palascak.

Jessica Garlick: Pop Idol contestant
In 2001 she was among the last ten contestants for the famous reality show Pop Idol, the show that made Gareth Gates and Will Young into international stars. Jessica Garlick wasn't unnoticed either, as the BBC invited her to sing Come Back, one of the competing songs in A Song for Europe, the British selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002. The audience selected her to represent the United Kingdom at the event in Tallinn, where with a strong vocal performance she took her country to easily its best result since Imaani's Where Are You? in 1998, finishing joint third alongside Estonia's representative Sahlene.

Michelle McManus: Pop Idol WINNER
In early 2003, McManus auditioned for the second season of Pop Idol, along with thousands of other aspiring singers from around the UK. Of the four judges, Pete Waterman in particular was critical as to whether she could make a career in the music industry, mainly due to her size. However, she was the favourite of Simon Cowell, and after being put through to the semi-final stages, the public voted McManus into the top twelve, though she entered the finals as the bookmaker's rank-outsider. Throughout the finals, McManus was in the bottom 3 only once, and on 20 December 2003, she was declared the winner of Pop Idol.

Mark Rhodes: Runner Up
Mark finished in second place in the second season of Pop Idol in the UK, runner-up to Michelle McManus. After Pop Idol he teamed up with third-place Sam Nixon, releasing two singles under the name Sam and Mark. In February 2004, their cover of the song "With a Little Help from My Friends" reached #1 in the UK singles chart, remaining there for one week. Their second single 'The Sun Has Come Your Way only" only reached #19 in the singles chart. The pair were subsequently dropped from their record label.
Mark went on to co-present Top of the Pops Reloaded with Sam Nixon and Fearne Cotton in 2004. From April 2006, Mark co-hosted the weekday children's breakfast show Level Up on BBC Two alongside Nixon and Ayesha Asantewaa. Level Up finished its first season in September 2006.
As of September 2006, Rhodes co-presents BBC Two's Saturday morning show TMi alongside Sam Nixon and television presenter Caroline Flack. He has his own short segment of the show called "Question Mark", A feature where he tries to answer viewers' questions, but Caroline and Sam talk through it.
He is currently co-presenting Do Something Different with Sam Nixon and Ayesha Asantewaa.

Sam Nixon: 3rd
Sam Nixon (born 21 March 1986) in Monk Bretton, Barnsley, is a UK pop singer and television presenter. He came third on the Pop Idol television series in 2003. He was a catering student from Barnsley College in South Yorkshire, England. He attended Holgate School, Barnsley from 1997 to 2002, where he formed a band Fareview with friends.
Nixon and fellow Pop Idol finalist Mark Rhodes had a #1 hit in the United Kingdom with their cover of With a Little Help from My Friends, originally performed by The Beatles. Their second single 'The Sun Has Come Your Way' debuted in the UK top 40 at #19, however they were dropped from their record deal after this release.
Nixon began a television presenting career, co-hosting Top of the Pops Reloaded, before forming a presentational double-act on the BAFTA winning CBBC show Level Up, with Mark Rhodes, which started on the 3 April 2006 (and ended on 1 September 2006). Their new children's Saturday morning show, TMi, started on BBC Two on 16 September, with the series finishing on 3 February 2007. TMi has been recommissioned for a second series to start in September 2007. Sam & Mark's new show Do Something Different started on BBC Two on 2 April 2007 and will be broadcast during the school Easter and summer Holidays.
Nixon's current project that started at the beginning of the Easter holidays 2007 is called Do Something Different where he returns with Mark Rhodes and Ayesha Asantewaa to get 1 million children to try something new.

Season 1, 2002
Kelly Clarkson: American Idol WINNER ![]()
Kelly Brianne Clarkson (born April 24, 1982) is an American pop rock singer, songwriter, and occasional actress. Clarkson made her debut under RCA Records after she won the highly publicized first season of the television series American Idol in 2002. She was originally marketed as a pop musician with her debut album Thankful (2003). With the release of her multi-platinum second album Breakaway (2004), Clarkson moved to a more pop rock-oriented style of music.[1] Clarkson's third album, entitled My December, was released on June 26, 2007. Her fourth album is due in fall 2008. Clarkson has sold over 19 million albums worldwide.[2][3] Clarkson's tour with Reba McEntire ranks as the 13th most successful tour in the U.S. of 2008.
Clarkson won the first season competition of American Idol on September 4, 2002, earning 58% of the audience vote over Justin Guarini.[6] Choking back tears, Clarkson performed the ballad "A Moment Like This", the song written for the winner of American Idol, which would subsequently appear on her debut album Thankful. The song's music video was filmed at Pantages Theater in Hollywood, and incorporated short scenes of Clarkson performing on Idol. When released as a single in October 2002, it set a then record on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart when it rose from number fifty-two to number one.[7] This achievement was largely due to the impact from Idol as the CD single managed to sell 236,000 copies in its first week of sales in the U.S.;[8] it spent five weeks at number one in Canada.

Justin Guarini: American Idol Runner Up ![]()
"Justin, you know, occasionally you're very privileged when you do a competition like this to hear somebody undiscovered who has a voice like yours". With those words from Simon Cowell, Guarini emerged as a standout during the early round of auditions for American Idol's debut season, ultimately becoming the runner-up to winner Kelly Clarkson in September 2002. Soon after, Guarini signed with American Idol's 19 Management and secured a record deal with RCA. Prior to the American Idol Tour, he was the only contestant asked to appear on "The Oprah Show", where Oprah Winfrey told him, "Justin, you have it". After reviews during the American Idol Tour describing Guarini as a "revelation" (Los Angeles Times), "easily the best performer... whose combination of pipes and persona most deserves a continued place in the spotlight" (Boston Herald), and "the closest thing to a natural in the spotlight" (Indianapolis Star), the multi-talented newcomer's career appeared ready to take off. However, unlike subsequent seasons, Guarini was required to wait until after the release of the winner‘s album before releasing any solo projects or accepting any outside offers. Some known outside offers contractually required to refuse (revealed at separate times by Guarini on his RCA official website, by his parents in on-air interviews, and by his stepfather in the Philly Burb) were a guest role on Friends, the emcee role in Broadway's Cabaret, a major role in the TV series The Fast and the Furious, recording the soundtrack for a film, and modeling for Tommy Hilfiger.
His long delayed first project, the self-titled album Justin Guarini, debuted nine months later in June 2003, coinciding with the high profile single releases of the current second season American Idol top finishers, and Simon Fuller's ill-fated movie project, From Justin to Kelly, starring Guarini and Clarkson. The timing further hindered Guarini, while having little impact on Clarkson whose career momentum had been established with ongoing solo projects and individual promotion during the prior months. After a short period of haphazard promotion, Guarini was dropped by RCA. When legally possible, he decided to sever ties with Fuller's 19 Management.

Season 2, 2003
Ruben Studdard: American Idol WINNER
When auditioning, Studdard sang Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky." This guided him to being one of the local finalists. On American Idol, he impressed viewers with his performances of the Leon Russell/Bonnie Bramlett song "Superstar" (originally a hit for The Carpenters and Luther Vandross) and the Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle duet "A Whole New World"; during his time on the show, Studdard received praise from music legends such as Lionel Richie, Neil Sedaka, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, Luther Vandross, and Gladys Knight.
During the televised competition, Studdard gained the nickname "Velvet Teddy Bear" and was noted for his shirts printed with "205", the telephone area code of his hometown of Birmingham. Studdard also did a cover version of "For All We Know", originally recorded by Donny Hathaway, whose music he grew up with.
He won the contest over runner-up Clay Aiken by only 134,000 votes out of 24,000,000 cast in the May 2003 finale[4], becoming the second American Idol winner and the first and only male (as well as the oldest winner) to hold that title until 2006, when fellow Birmingham native Taylor Hicks won Idol's season five.
Alabama Governor Bob Riley declared 11 March 2002 as "Ruben Studdard Day".[5]

Clay Aitkin: American Idol Runner Up
Television viewers' first glimpse of Aiken came during the audition episodes at the beginning of American Idol's second season. The show's judges first saw Aiken as a nerdy type unlikely to be any kind of idol, but after hearing him sing Heatwave's "Always and Forever" decided to advance him to the next round. The clip of the judges' surprise during this audition performance was replayed many times over the course of the competition.
Aiken made it to the round-of-32 before being cut from the show, but he was invited to return for the "Wild Card" round; his performance of Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" sent him on to the final 12 as the viewer's choice. While noted for his performance of ballads, such as Neil Sedaka's "Solitaire", his upbeat performances, including The Foundations' "Build Me Up Buttercup", were also appreciated. Aiken received enough votes every week to keep him out of the bottom three. Part of his appeal was his "geek to chic" transformation in appearance. "I looked like Opie," Aiken said to People magazine regarding his appearance at his American Idol audition in 2002.[13] He replaced his glasses with contact lenses and agreed to let the show's stylists change his hair style.[14] With longer, flat ironed, spiky hair and a penchant for wearing striped shirts, Aiken had established a trademark look by the final American Idol season 2 show.
On 21 May 2003, Aiken came in a close second to Studdard, who won the contest by 130,000 votes out of more than 24,000,000 votes cast. The result was controversial, as some hypothesized that Idol's voting system was incapable of handling the number of attempted calls.[15] In an interview prior to the start of the fifth season of American Idol, Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe revealed for the first time that Aiken had led the fan voting every week from the Wild Card week to the finale, when the possibly-random voting result gave Studdard the win.[16] Though officially Aiken was the show's "first runner-up," he has since gone on to be the second season's best-selling star.

Kimberley Locke:
On October 30, 2002, the reality-TV singing competition American Idol held auditions in Nashville, Tennessee for the show's second season. Locke successfully passed through to the next round, and in December was chosen to perform on the show. She finished third, behind runner up Clay Aiken and eventual champion Ruben Studdard. Simon Cowell at first criticized Locke as lacking in personality; by the final three however, he declared her, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard to be as worthy winners as any. She has since been invited back to the show to perform twice (seasons 3 and 7).
Locke went on to sign a record deal with Curb Records on September 6, 2003. Her debut album, One Love, was released May 4, 2004. Debut single "8th World Wonder" reached the top half of the Billboard Hot 100 and was successful on other charts, and even entered the UK chart with little promotion. "Wrong" and "I Could" followed as singles and were hits on the Pop and Adult Contemporary charts respectively. "Coulda Been" was the album's only single not to chart.
Locke released her version of "Up On The Housetop" in Fall 2005 and by the end of year it had reached the top spot of the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts and broke many records, due to its quick rise to the top. The following year, Kimberley's version of "Jingle Bells" was released and topped the same charts. A full Christmas album entitled Christmas — only available digitally — was released on November 6, 2007.
Locke's second album, Based On A True Story, was released on May 1, 2007. The album's original lead single, "Supawoman," co-written with her producers Damon Sharpe and Mark J. Feist, was released to radio on August 7, 2006, however after underwhelming radio support, Curb Records decided to refocus. "Change," was released to radio on January 15, 2007 to positive support and climbed the charts well into the summer of 2007. The album's next single was a cover of Freda Payne's "Band Of Gold," which was released to radio on August 13, 2007 and became Locke's 6th solo AC Top 10 hit. The album's third single,"Fall," a song also recorded by country music artist Clay Walker, was released to radio in February 2008.

Fantasia Barrino: American Idol WINNER
Barrino made an immediate impression on American Idol with her stylized, gospel-influenced sound, and her explosive stage presence. Her audition version of Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" made her an early favorite in the competition. Her standout performance during the course of the show was a heartfelt staging, begun seated, of the Porgy and Bess standard "Summertime" that left her in tears from "feeling the song" and earned praise from the judges, as well as landing her on the Emmy Awards's 2004 list of greatest television moments. "Summertime" was also labeled by idol judge Randy Jackson as the best performance in the show's history.
Nevertheless, Barrino's rise to the final two on American Idol was plagued with controversies, including accusations of racism when she and two other well-praised African American female singers in the competition, LaToya London and Jennifer Hudson, all landed in the bottom three of that week's voting. Guest artist Elton John labeled the outcome "racist". Other concerns were raised over her as a single mother being a poor role model for youth.[4]
In the final performance of the season that formed the basis upon which America voted, Barrino offered a second performance of "Summertime" that again drew enormous praise from the judges — including Simon Cowell's remarks that she was the best contestant to ever compete in any competition. This would include the over seventy Idol champions crowned nationally and internationally since the show began its first global incarnations. On the finale, over sixty-five million votes were cast in order to determine the winner on May 26, 2004, up from twenty-four million in 2003.[5] It was the highest finale vote in the show's history until the May 23, 2007 American Idol 6 finale. In the end Fantasia defeated runner-up Diana DeGarmo by 1.3 million votes.[6] At age nineteen, Fantasia was the youngest American Idol winner until May 23, 2007, when the 17 year-old Jordin Sparks won the title.
Barrino participated in the U.S. tour with the other American Idol finalists and appeared in the 2004 Christmas special, Kelly, Ruben and Fantasia: Home For the Holidays.

Diana DeGarmo: American Idol Runner Up
DeGarmo took part in the third season of American Idol in 2004, finishing second after a close race with winner Fantasia Barrino. DeGarmo was known for her power-house performances,[citation needed] as well as her ability to perform songs with ease at such a young age.
She started off as the first person to perform in the top 32, and was the 2nd person voted into the finals, after eventual winner Fantasia Barrino. However, she ended up in the bottom 3 in 3 of the first 5 weeks. The surprising thing was, starting from the top 7, she never got into the bottom 3 or 2, gradually becoming one of the front runners in the competition following the elimination of Jennifer Hudson and Latoya London.

George Huff
George Clayton Huff, Jr. (born November 4, 1980 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American singer, whose rich, powerful voice carried him to first place among male contestants and overall fifth-place finalist on the third season of the reality/talent-search television series American Idol.
Huff is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana; he is currently a student at the University of Oklahoma. Huff auditioned for the third season of American Idol in Houston, Texas; he was a member of the fourth group of semifinalists. He was actually not among those originally chosen for the semifinal round, but was put through when contestant Donnie Williams was disqualified for a drunk driving arrest.
Huff was not voted through to the final round from his group of semifinalists, but got another second chance when he was brought back for the wildcard round and put through as a finalist by contest judge Simon Cowell. During this period, New Orleans Fox Affiliate WVUE would hold specials including Huff's family cheering George on during the latest episodes.
On May 5, 2004, Huff was voted off in fifth place after two renditions of Fred Astaire's "Cheek to Cheek" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" during big band week.
His album, Miracles, was released by Word Records, on October 11, 2005. The first single off that album was "Brighter Day". It sold 18,000 copies.
In 2005 his Louisiana home was affected by Hurricane Katrina. He left New Orleans and stayed at his brother's house in Dallas.[1] His recent performances have included an October 2006 concert at West Virginia University[2] and a December 2006 Christmas show in Salinas, California.[3]
In 2007 Huff's song "Brighter Day" was briefly featured in Tyler Perry's movie "Why Did I Get Married?" starring Janet Jackson.

Carrie Underwood: American Idol WINNER
In the summer of 2004, Underwood auditioned for American Idol in St. Louis. During the top eleven finalists' performance on the March 22, 2005 Idol episode, Underwood sang a rendition of the number one 80's rock hit "Alone" by Heart and judge Simon Cowell predicted that Underwood would not only win the competition, but would outsell all previous Idol winners.[9] Underwood was the second winner never to have been voted in the bottom three (the first being Kelly Clarkson); one of the show's producers later said that Underwood dominated the voting, winning each week handily.[10] While on the show, Underwood gained a loyal fan base known as "Carrie's Care Bears". Coincidentally, she was in the same sorority (Sigma Sigma Sigma) as Linda Denham, the creator of the original Care Bears franchise. Her best friends were Kelly Kup and Sabrina Hundal.
On May 25, 2005, Underwood was crowned the winner of the fourth season of American Idol.
Underwood appeared on the sixth season of American Idol, where she sang her single "Wasted" on March 8. This was her fourth time performing on the show since winning the competition in 2005.[11] Underwood also performed at the Idol Gives Back concert singing her new song, "I'll Stand By You", (a cover of the Pretenders hit) along with Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, and others. Underwood sang the same song at American Idol's season finale on May 23, 2007. She also sang "Praying For Time", a former number one for George Michael, at the 2008 American Idol Gives Back mini-marathon.

Bo Bice American Idol Runner Up
A Southern rocker in musical approach and appearance, Bice did not fit into the normal American Idol mold. However, his early performance of The Allman Brothers Band's "Whipping Post" drew raves from the judges and established him as one of the favorites in the competition.
For the 2005 season, Idol producers raised their required age limit from 16-26 to 16-28. Along with Constantine Maroulis, he was one of the oldest contestants to audition and participate on American Idol, as well as being the oldest contestant to have progressed the farthest in the singing competition. Bice and Maroulis are also notable for being among the first contestants to compete using the rock idiom.
During the final three performance show, Bice took the enormous risk of performing without the benefit of a band or backup singers. This was the first time in the history of the show that anybody had ever attempted to sing a cappella at this stage in the competition. He sang “In a Dream,” an obscure song recorded by 1990s metal band, Badlands. Throughout the season, Bice had been known for his sweeping command of the stage. This time, however, he stood alone and motionless, his long hair glowing under a single spotlight. His masterful performance was pitch-perfect, and was highly praised by the judges, including Clive Davis who spoke of looking forward to making an album with Bice.
In June 2005 Bice was quoted in Rolling Stone magazine that his last thought during the Idol finale was, "Please, God, don't let me win this thing." [4] In comments during a subsequent appearance on The Today Show, Bice backed off this stance a bit, saying that he thanked all those who had voted for him. He then played solo acoustic guitar and harmonica to one of his own compositions, in addition to singing his Idol songs with a band.
In Alabama, May 24 was declared "Bo Bice Day" by Governor Bob Riley. In fact, Bice's pride in being an Alabama native resulted in the adoption of Lynyrd Skynyrd's hit "Sweet Home Alabama" as his "theme" during his tenure on American Idol. Two members of the group Lynyrd Skynyrd surprised Bice during his trip home from Idol and performed "Sweet Home Alabama" with him in his home town of Helena, Alabama. Bice and the entire Lynyrd Skynyrd group performed a rousing rendition of the song together during American Idol finals, bringing nearly the entire audience to their feet.

mariovazquezofficial.com Mario Adrián Vázquez (born June 15, 1977) is a Puerto Rican American singer from The Bronx, New York. He competed on American Idol's fourth season which aired on the FOX network in early 2005. Biography Vazquez is an alumnus of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. He was also involved in the City Kids Repertoire Company in New York City, which enabled him to travel the country and perform in front of the President and at major charitable functions and shelters. After making it into the final round of twelve contestants on the hit reality show American Idol, Vazquez suddenly dropped out of the competition for "family reasons" a few days before the finals started. When the press contacted his mother regarding his decision, she wasn't aware that he had made it to the finals. Vazquez was replaced by Nikko Smith who had previously been voted out. Some[who?] believed that Vazquez quit the show in order to avoid the highly restrictive contracts that the final twelve must sign. Vazquez, however, appeared the next morning on "Good Day New York" on WNYW FOX5, and quashed rumors of a feud with "American Idol" producers or any of his competitors. "American Idol was only positive. They were only wonderful to me, from the beginning through the middle, to the end," he told the show. "It had nothing to do with the contract or anything signed with J Records." J Records is the same company that manages Idol winners Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino. In August 2005, it was reported that Vazquez had signed with record executive Clive Davis and Davis' Arista Records.[1] Vazquez's manager is Arnold Steifel, of Rod Stewart fame. He is also reportedly set to work with Houston rapper Mike Jones. Other co-producers include Ne-Yo, Soulshock and Karlin, Lester Mendez, Scott Storch and Luny Tunes. His first single "Gallery" written by Ne-Yo who also co-produced the vocals on the track, was one of the most added records at Rhythm radio stations across the country its first week out. The track was sent out to Top 40 radio on April 17, 2006 and was made available through all digital retailers as a single release on May 2, 2006. Both English and Spanglish versions of "Gallery" are currently on radio and are released digitally. Vazquez's self-titled album was released September 26, 2006 by Arista Records. The album debuted at #80 with 12,000 sold, falling out of the Top 200 within two weeks. Vazquez attributed his departure from American Idol due to his need to control the "sound" that he has worked on since he was 13 years old. He felt that American Idol wasn't going to give him that. In an interview about American Idol Season 5, Vazquez also attributed his early departure from American Idol as a way to prevent himself from being labeled as a top 12 contestant – he did not want a "number", felt that since he was now known worldwide as a semi-finalist (which was better than not being known at all), he could end the competition and go solo. He believed that his musical success would not make a difference whether he quit as a semi-finalist or participated in the finals round. Unfortunately for Vasquez, this success has not come in the form of CD sales as he stands as the third lowest selling American Idol contestant, in front of Corey Clark who was disquallified and Ayla Brown who did not make it to the finals, and behind even William Hung. Later that year, Vazquez performed on the Cartoon Network Friday block on August 25, 2006. A second single "One Shot" was released to radio in February 2007 after 10 months of relying only on the first single to promote the album. It began receiving moderate airplay and by early March was hovering around #58 on Mediabase 24/7's CHR/Pop chart. Discography

Season 5, 2006
Taylor Hicks American Idol WINNER
Hicks auditioned for American Idol in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 10, 2005. Hicks passed the audition by the approval of judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, but not Simon Cowell, who said that Hicks would never make it to the final round. On Hicks' first performance for the voting public, Cowell called back to this quote, admitting he was wrong.
On the May 10, 2006, results show, Hicks along with Katharine McPhee and Elliott Yamin, were announced as the Top 3 finalists. On May 12, Idol producers brought Hicks to Birmingham for a weekend of promotional events including television interviews for the local FOX affiliate, a downtown parade, concerts, and an audience with Governor Bob Riley.[15][16] May 12 was proclaimed "Taylor Hicks Day" and Hicks was given the key to the city.[17] Also on May 12, Gov. Riley issued a proclamation making May 16 "Taylor Hicks Day".[18]
Hicks was named the new American Idol on May 24, 2006, winning the title over McPhee, with over 63.4 million votes cast in total. The proclamation was aired to a worldwide audience of 200 million television viewers.[19] With his win at age 29, Hicks became the oldest person to win American Idol.
In June 2006, Ford Motor Company, the show's major sponsor, signed Hicks to promote Ford's "Drive on Us" year-end sales event.[20] He was also named Hottest Bachelor by People magazine for 2006, appearing on the magazine's cover.[21]

Katharine McPhee American Idol Runner Up
McPhee was persuaded by Nick Cokas and her parents to try out for American Idol. She auditioned in San Francisco, and sang "God Bless the Child", originally performed by Billie Holiday. Paula Abdul said that McPhee was "absolutely beautiful", Randy Jackson hailed her audition as potentially the best so far that season, and Simon Cowell complimented her for being "current" and her audition being "absolutely fantastic".
McPhee listed Whitney Houston and Brian McKnight as her favorite artists[8] in the American Idol interview of the top 24 semi-finalists.
During the week preceding the top three show, she was a runner-up in the Kennel Club Finals. McPhee visited her former high school for her hometown celebration.[9] Antonio Villaraigosa visited Notre Dame High School and proclaimed McPhee's visit as "Katharine McPhee Day."
McPhee's run on American Idol led to the popular use of the term "McPheever", coined by Ralph Garman of Los Angeles radio station KROQ's morning show Kevin and Bean. She also referred to her fans as the "Kat Pack" and "McPhans".
McPhee was congratulated by Congressman Brad Sherman of Sherman Oaks, the 27th district of California, who raised a flag in her honor at the United States Capitol on the day of the finale show.[10]
McPhee performed KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" during the Idol final run.
During the Idol Finale, McPhee duetted with Meat Loaf. They performed "It's All Coming Back to Me Now", which he had previously recorded with Rocker Chick Marion Raven, whose voice has been compared to Katharine's.
During the competition, McPhee roomed with fellow contestant Kellie Pickler, and when Pickler was eliminated, she roomed with Paris Bennett.[11] Pickler was later involved as a bridesmaid in McPhee's wedding in 2008.[12]

Yamin auditioned in Boston, Massachusetts, singing Leon Russell's "A Song for You",[10] but his audition was not aired. He performed the song again in front of the judges during Hollywood rounds, as well as Rascal Flatts's "Bless the Broken Road". During the group auditions, Yamin and his group performed "It's In Her Kiss" (aka "The Shoop Shoop Song") from The Hollies; Simon Cowell disliked the group performance, but Randy Jackson said Yamin was the best one in his group, and Paula Abdul said it was a good thing she could look past two left feet, in a way of saying he did not dance well but he could definitely sing. He was sent through by the judges and made it through to the finals of the competition.
During one weekly rehearsal, guest coach Stevie Wonder told Yamin that he should definitely pursue a career in music. Simon Cowell stated that he thought Yamin was "potentially the best male vocalist" in five seasons on American Idol and later, after Yamin's "A Song for You" performance, he declared that it was a "vocal masterclass." His performance of "A Song for You" ranked third on Entertainment Weekly's countdown of the 15 best American Idol performances in the series history.[11]
On the May 10, 2006 results show Yamin, Taylor Hicks, and Katharine McPhee were announced as the top three finalists. All three returned to their respective hometowns for a day of festivities in their honor. Yamin's homecoming visit included radio and television interviews; performing "Home" for more than 4,000 fans, capped by Mayor Douglas Wilder presenting the key to the city; and meeting Governor Tim Kaine, whom Yamin greeted with a hug. Yamin threw out the first pitch before a sold-out crowd at The Diamond for a Richmond Braves game and sang a verse a cappella of "A Song for You".[12] Video highlights were shown on the top three results show.
Yamin was eliminated from American Idol on May 17, 2006, after the tightest race; each of the three top contestants received an almost exactly equal percentage of the viewer votes necessary for advancement to the remaining two spots.[13]

Chris Daughtry
Christopher Adam Daughtry (IPA: /ˈkrɪstʌfɜr ˈdoʊtriː/[2]) (born December 26, 1979 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, United States) is a Grammy nominated American rock guitarist, singer and songwriter who is the lead vocalist of Daughtry, a band he formed in 2006. He was the fourth-place finalist on the highly publicized fifth season of American Idol, eliminated from the competition on May 10, 2006.
After his fallout from Idol, he was given a record deal by RCA Records, along with 19 Entertainment. His band's self-titled debut album sold more than 1 million copies after just 5 weeks of release, becoming the fastest selling debut rock album in Soundscan history.[3] In its ninth week of release, the album reached number one on the Billboard charts, edging out the Dreamgirls soundtrack. Daughtry is the fourth most successful American Idol contestant in history, behind Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Clay Aiken, as well as the most successful person who did not finish in the top two.

Paris Bennett released her debut album Princess P on 306 Entertainment/TVT Records in 2007.
American Idol
In her audition, Bennett first performed the Dixie Chicks' Cowboy Take Me Away, and was complimented by Paula Abdul on her voice. Bennett then chose to sing Take Five which she mistakenly attributed to Billie Holiday. In fact, Billie Holiday died in 1959, however, it was composed by Paul Desmond (saxophonist in Dave Brubeck's band) in 1959 with the lyrics penned by his wife in 1960/61 and first recorded by Carmen McRae.[16] Randy Jackson said that she has the lineage (referring to Nesby), Abdul called Bennett incredible, and Simon Cowell asked where she had been hiding. Bennett was given a unanimous vote to go to Hollywood.
In the first Hollywood round, Bennett sang Can't Fight the Moonlight and was put through to the next round. She then performed a group performance of Emotion with Hannah Freeman and Stevie Scott, which was said by Cowell to be pitiful overall. Bennett was put through. For her third performance, Bennett sang Fever. She was then put through to the Top 24.
On February 21, Bennett performed Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight & The Pips. The judges enjoyed the performance. On February 28, Bennett performed Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings, and was told that it was a good vocal performance, and to avoid performing older songs. On March 7, Bennett performed Gloria Estefan's Conga. The judges liked the decision to sing an uptempo song, although the vocals were average. Bennett was put through to the Top 12 on March 9.
On March 14, the Stevie Wonder theme night, Bennett performed All I Do. Stevie Wonder, guest coach, said that hearing Paris reminded him of the excitement of Fantasia Barrino. Jackson said that she had returned to greatness, Abdul called her a seasoned veteran, and Cowell added that she was very confident on the stage. Bennett was safe.
On March 21, the 1950s theme night, Bennett performed the song she had performed in the Hollywood round, Peggy Lee's Fever. Barry Manilow praised the depth and power in her vocals. Jackson said that she displayed experience beyond her years, Abdul called her vocals impeccable, and Cowell said it was great. Bennett was safe.
Bennett performed Beyoncé Knowles' Work It Out on the March 28 show, in which the theme was of songs from the past six years. Jackson thought it was the best of the night; Abdul called it awesome. Cowell found it overly precocious. Bennett was safe.
On April 4, the country theme night, Bennett performed How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes. Kenny Rogers felt that it was a good choice to display Bennett's strengths. Jackson found the beginning weak, but felt she improved somewhat by the end. Abdul did not feel a connection with the song, and thought it seemed a struggle for Bennett. Cowell called the performance very good and an excellent choice of song. On the results night, Bennett was placed in the bottom three with Mandisa and Elliott Yamin, but was not eliminated.
On April 11, the Queen theme night, Bennett sang "The Show Must Go On". Brian May said that he loved everything about Bennett. Jackson told her that it was a little rough in the beginning and middle, but she worked it out in the end. Abdul told Bennett to keep on rocking. Cowell found it a little weird. Bennett was safe. Cowell revealed on April 14 that Bennett was his personal favorite.[17]
April 18 was the Great American Songbook theme night, and Bennett performed These Foolish Things. Rod Stewart commented that "for seventeen, Paris is amazing." Jackson said that it was her best performance. Abdul said that Bennett could have a hit album of these songs. Cowell found it stylish and classy. Bennett was placed in the bottom three with Chris Daughtry and Ace Young, but was not eliminated.
The theme of the April 25 show was love songs. Bennett performed Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were. David Foster called her rehearsal performance "very nice", and Andrea Bocelli called her voice spectacular. Jackson said that he liked it although he was not blown away. Abdul thought Bennett oversang in parts, but overall it was the best female vocal of the night. Cowell called it a very good vocal, but old-fashioned. Bennett was in the bottom two with Kellie Pickler, but was not eliminated.
The first theme on May 2 was songs from the contestants' year of birth. Bennett chose Kiss by Prince, although the version released in 1988 was by Art of Noise, featuring Tom Jones. Jackson liked the performance. Abdul stated that she loves Paris singing songs from the past eras. Cowell found it screechy and annoying. The second theme was songs on the current Billboard charts. Bennett performed Be Without You by Mary J. Blige. Jackson thought that Bennett rocked it. Abdul thought that she loved Bennett's voice on the song, but was wishing for an individual flip on it. Cowell thought that Bennett did rather well with the song. On May 3, Bennett was placed in the bottom two with Yamin and eliminated from the competition.

In December 2006, he signed a recording contract with Lyric Street Records; Covington's self-titled debut album, produced by Mark Miller of the country band Sawyer Brown, was released on April 17, 2007. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. As of 2008, the album has produced the #6 country hit "A Different World" and the #11 "It's Good to Be Us".
American Idol
In the 2005-06 season, the Covington twins auditioned for American Idol in Greensboro, NC individually. Of the two, Bucky advanced to the final twelve. On March 22, Bucky remained in the bottom three, along with Lisa Tucker and Kevin Covais. On April 12 when Covington was in the bottom three with Ace Young and Elliott Yamin, the votes went to the latter two.
In the Top 8 results show of Season six of American Idol, he appeared in one of the front rows. Since being on Idol he has had his teeth capped.
In November and December of 2006, Bucky Covington performed on the GAC Country Music Christmas tour, making him the first Idol from the 5th season to be part of a major non-American Idol concert tour.[4]
Covington negotiated with Buena Vista Music Group's country label, Lyric Street Records. His debut single, "A Different World," was released to country radio on January 16, 2007, coinciding with the premiere of American Idol (Season 6).[5][6][7] Its initial debut on radio was on Sirius Satellite Radio's New Country channel in late December 2006.
His debut album, Bucky Covington, was released on April 17, 2007, to positive reviews. It debuted on the Billboard 200 at #4 selling 61,000 copies. It also debuted at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart, making the album the best opening week for a debut album by a male on the chart since Billy Ray Cyrus' 1992 debut with Some Gave All.[8] Covington's debut surpassed the previous record held by Jason Michael Carroll's Waitin' in the Country.[9] He performed selections from his album during a nationwide tour in 2007, and the track "Empty Handed" appeared in NASCAR 08 as part of the in-game soundtrack.

Jordin Brianna Sparks (born December 22, 1989)[1] is an American pop/R&B singer. On May 23, 2007, she was declared the winner of the sixth season of the reality television show American Idol. Sparks won at the age of 17, making her the youngest winner of American Idol. Sparks was recently featured in the seventh season of American Idol.
In 2006, Jordin Sparks won second place in the 2006 Drug Free AZ Superstar Search.
Sparks appeared on the January 17, 2007 broadcast of American Idol, earning a "gold ticket" and the right to appear in the Hollywood Round. American Idol judge Randy Jackson made the offhand prediction that "Curly hair will win this year,"[5] which he admitted wasn't Sparks. Before going on to American Idol, she had won Arizona Idol. In 2006, Sparks was one of six winners who won the Phoenix Torrid search for the "Next Plus Size Model." She was flown to California, where she was used in a number of Torrid ads and promotional pieces.[6] A full-page ad for Torrid featuring Sparks ran in the December 2006 issue of Seventeen magazine"

Blake Colin Lewis (born July 21, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter and beatboxer who was the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol.
Though he initially found American Idol unappealing, Lewis auditioned for it in Seattle with "Crazy" by Seal and an off-screen rendition of "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5.[25][26][27] Introducing himself as the local beatboxing champion in the audition, Lewis beatboxed along with his teammates, including Chris Sligh, Rudy Cárdenas and Tom Lowe, to "How Deep Is Your Love" by Bee Gees in the Hollywood's Week. The memorable performance received a standing ovation from the audience and Paula Abdul, who commented "that brought down the house". In an early episode of the United Kingdom edition of American Idol, Lewis recalled his first solo performance in the Hollywood's Week was "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" by The Temptations. When later he sang it in front of the other finalists, Phil Stacey felt that it was the best performance he has seen from Lewis.[28]

Melinda Marie Doolittle (born on October 6, 1977) is an American singer who finished as the third place finalist on the sixth season of American Idol. Prior to her appearance on American Idol, Doolittle worked as a professional back-up singer for, among others, Michael McDonald, Kirk Franklin, Aaron Neville, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Alabama, Jonny Lang, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Anointed.
Audition
Doolittle first auditioned for American Idol in Memphis, Tennessee. She sang the song "For Once in My Life", which was popularized by Stevie Wonder, one of her favorite artists. She went down to Memphis with some friends who were auditioning and decided to audition for fun. She was met with admiration from all three judges in response to her audition. They did express concern, however, about the nerves she had exhibited and told her to believe in herself.
Doolittle managed to secure herself a spot in the Top 24, who all performed on national television. During her first broadcast performance, Doolittle was highly praised for her rendition of "Sweet Sweet Baby (Since You’ve Been Gone)", by Aretha Franklin. The following week, Doolittle pulled off another winning performance with the song "My Funny Valentine". According to the judges, it was "without question the best vocal of the night.", and it ranked #3 in AOL Top 20 Idol Performances. Simon called the performance "incredible" and Paula called it "just astounding...You phrased that song so beautifully, so differently...I applaud you." For her last semifinal performance, Doolittle attempted the song "I'm a Woman", causing Simon Cowell to call her "a little tiger," continuing: "I thought we had a pussycat." On March 8, 2007, Doolittle made it into the show's Top 12.

LaKisha Jones
Chris Richardson

Phil Stacey (born Joel Philip Stacey, January 21, 1978 in Richmond, Kentucky) is an American country music singer who first gained national attention on season 6 of the television talent show American Idol. After being eliminated from the competition on May 2, 2007, he was signed to a recording contract with Lyric Street Records. His debut single, "If You Didn't Love Me", was released to radio in early 2008 as the lead-off to his self-titled debut album, which was issued April 29, 2008 on Lyric Street.

Gina Glocksen

Charles Christopher Sligh (born April 13, 1978) is an American singer/songwriter who was a finalist on the sixth season of American Idol. He was eliminated from the competition on March 28, 2007 finishing in tenth place.
Sligh auditioned in Birmingham, Alabama singing "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal, after which Paula Abdul gave him a standing ovation and said, "I like you very much." Idol judges laughed at his ambition "to make David Hasselhoff cry," a reference to Hasselhoff's crying when Taylor Hicks won season 5.
Sligh was an early favorite of the judges, as all 3 judges spoke of a guy with curly hair who didn't look like the typical American Idol, Paula even used Teller from the magician duo Penn & Teller to describe her favorite of the competition. Sligh bears a slight resemblance to Penn Gillette. However, by the third week of the semi-finals, after Sligh sang "We All Wanna Be Loved" by DcTalk, the judges seemed to turn on him, especially Diana Ross week, when Sligh re-arranged the Diana Ross/Lionel Richie duet "Endless Love".
During the top 24 week, Sligh showed his extensive knowledge of American Idol trivia (which he claimed to have learned while researching for hours at his job in South Carolina). Simon claimed that Sligh's performance of "Typical" by the band MuteMath was "...like being at some weird student gig" and told Sligh that he felt like Sligh was there more on personality than vocal skill. After an exchange between Simon and Ryan Seacrest, Sligh retorted, "Just because I don't sound like Il Divo or the Telletubbies doesn't mean that I don't have a good voice" alluding to Simon's creation of the classical boy band Il Divo and his work in making an album featuring the Teletubbies. Randy and Paula cheered at the supposed insult. Many fans were left bewildered by Simon's dour reaction, which Sligh and Seacrest later cleared up in saying the dour expression was aimed at Seacrest.
Sligh was aware of the Vote for the Worst website and had tried to get the attention of the founder Dave Della Terza while on air by saying "Hi, Dave."[11]
Sligh was eliminated from American Idol on March 28, 2007 and is therefore the tenth-place singer in Season Six. While singing his last song, he told Phil Stacey "You owe me 50 bucks," from a bet that he would be eliminated that show.
On the next day, Sligh said that he had not sought to win the competition and that he had considered quitting the show two weeks before, but stayed on the show in order to make it into the top ten so that he could go on tour with the other top ten finalists and receive the accompanying payout.[12]
Later, on Sligh's blog, he cleared up the statement, saying that his wanting to quit was similar to anyone working a job and feeling like they couldn't do it anymore. He also cleared the rumor that he never wanted to win, saying, "I never set my sights on winning because it would've driven me crazy...I just focused on small goals, the first of which was to make the top 10 so I could go on tour.

David Roland Cook (born December 20, 1982) is an American rock singer-songwriter.[1] On May 21, 2008, he won the seventh season of the reality television show American Idol. Prior to Idol he worked as a bartender at the "Blank Slate" in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and released an album entitled Analog Heart.
Cook auditioned for American Idol in Omaha, Nebraska, performing Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." He originally did not plan to try out for the show as he was going on a trip to China; he came to the auditions initially to support his younger brother Andrew (who did not make it to Hollywood) and then decided to try out himself.[12][24] For his first Hollywood audition, Cook performed "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Later in the week he performed "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain.
Cook took advantage of the decision to allow contestants to play musical instruments. Besides his Hollywood audition, he also accompanied himself on electric guitar for his performances of "All Right Now," "Hello," "Day Tripper," "I'm Alive," "Baba O'Riley," "Dare You to Move," and "Dream Big," and on acoustic guitar for "Little Sparrow," "All I Really Need Is You," and "The World I Know." His white, left-handed Gibson Les Paul electric guitar has the letters "AC" on it; as Cook told TV Guide, "I have two brothers, Adam and Andrew. So, because of superstition, I put their initials on everything growing up."[25] Since the Top 12 week, he has also been wearing an orange wristband to support a 7-year-old fan, Lindsey Rose, with leukemia.[26][27]
"Billie Jean," one of his performances, was highly praised by all three judges, especially Simon Cowell. Cowell later said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the performance "was in a different league to anything we've heard on the season so far," and although he knew where the arrangement came from (Chris Cornell's remake of the Michael Jackson original), "that doesn't really matter." The performance has received well over 4.5 million views on YouTube.[28] Another of Cook's performances, "Day Tripper", was credited to Whitesnake. Seattle-based band Doxology has claimed that Cook's performance of "Eleanor Rigby" was based on a version the band recorded over a year ago.[29] On April 1, before performing his self-arranged rendition of "Little Sparrow" on American Idol, Cook responded to Ryan Seacrest in the interview session, revealing that his performance of "Eleanor Rigby" was based on Neil Zaza's and Doxology's versions. He also reiterated the credits of Whitesnake and Chris Cornell. Despite the controversy, critics praised Cook for choosing versions of songs that fit his vocal style.[30][31][32] His arrangements of "Hello," "Little Sparrow," "Always Be My Baby," "All I Really Need Is You," "Baba O'Riley," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" were original arrangements.
Cook won the seventh season of American Idol on May 21, 2008, receiving 56% of the votes with David Archuleta as the runner-up. Cook then sang "The Time of My Life", the winning song of the 2008 American Idol Songwriter's Competition.
During the finale, Cook appeared in a commercial for the game franchise Guitar Hero, mimicking Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Fellow finalist David Archuleta appeared in a separate commercial parodying the same scene. Both commercials were directed by Brett Ratner.
David Cook rides 'American Idol' win to top of iTunes chart
Just two days after winning Season 7 of "American Idol," David Cook sits atop the iTunes download chart. His first single, "The Time of My Life," is No. 1 while the other three songs he sang on this week's finale closely follow.
We will have to wait till at least the fall to see whether he can match this success with his first album. Cook tells Reuters: "It'll probably be a rock record. I just want to make a record that's going to make the hair on your neck stand up. Even if it doesn't do well commercially, as long as I can put out a record I am proud of — that's the goal right now. And hopefully the success will follow."
The last rocker to be launched by "Idol" was Chris Daughtry, who came in fourth two years ago. Since then, his band Daughtry has released a self-titled album which sold over 4 million copies and netted them four Grammy nods.

David Cook Sizzles With Record Chart Debuts
May 28, 2008, 2:15 PM ET
Silvio Pietroluongo, N.Y.
Season seven "American Idol" champion David Cook will set a record for debut entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs tomorrow as 11 titles enter the former, while 14 songs jump on the download tally. The onslaught is led by a No. 3 Hot 100 start for his original recording "The Time of My Life," which shifts 236,000 downloads to easily take the No. 1 spot on Hot Digital Songs.
"Idol" runner-up David Archuleta lands three songs on both charts, led by his cover of John Lennon's "Imagine" (No. 36 Hot 100, No. 16 on Hot Digital Songs, 71,000).
Cook's takeover of the Hot 100 shatters the mark for debuts set by Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana) in the Nov. 11, 2006, issue, when she placed six new titles on the list. The 11 songs on the chart are the most in a week by any artist in the Nielsen Music era, which began in December 1991 when the chart converted to Nielsen BDS and Nielsen SoundScan data.
His haul also marks the most placements on the list since the Beatles charted 14 songs on the Hot 100 in the week of April 11, 1964.
The 14 tracks on Hot Digital Songs also gives Cook a record for debuts and total songs on that three-year-old chart, besting Hannah Montana's total output (8) on the Nov. 11, 2006 chart, and Bon Jovi's six debuts in the May 19, 2007, issue.
This is the first week of the 2008 season that "American Idol" downloads counted toward Billboard's charts. In cooperation with the show's producers, Apple withheld reporting iTunes sales of those songs until the week of the final episode.

Syesha Raquel Mercado (born January 2, 1987) is an American singer, model, and actress. She described herself in an interview as "a black Christina Aguilera or Alicia Keys."[1] Mercado was the third-place finalist on the seventh season of the television series American Idol.
Rare Video of Syesha singing "Listen" from "Dreamgirls"

Jason René Castro (born March 25, 1987) is a Colombian-American singer-songwriter and the fourth place finalist on the seventh season of the television series American Idol.
To quote my good friend in the USA, cheers Luvie ....
'Clarifcation :....Jason did not record that song but sang it live at his big homecoming in TX.
It is an old standard from the old west...so it was just so funny to see dreadlock boy with his ukulele doing it his way....just so cute. But remember he is from Rockwall Texas. So cute.'

Brooke Elizabeth White (born June 2, 1983) is an American singer-songwriter and was the fifth place finalist on the seventh season of American Idol.
White tried out for American Idol in Philadelphia. She sang "Like a Star" and she received a positive review from all the judges. During her audition, she admitted to never having seen an R-rated movie, prompting Cowell to state that he could "bring her over to the dark side". During the Hollywood week, White performed "Beautiful" by Carole King, accompanying herself on piano. After that performance, judges were quick to point out that Brooke reminded them of a young Carly Simon or Carole King.
Since top 24, White has accompanied herself on guitar for her performances of "You're So Vain", "Jolene" and "I'm a Believer", and on piano for "Let It Be", "Every Breath You Take", "Hero" and "I Am...I Said". Judge Simon Cowell chose White early as one of his four favorites in the competition, along with David Archuleta, Jason Castro and David Cook, when he appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired on March 17, 2008.[8]
During the 1970s week, while White was performing "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon, she stared at Simon Cowell. It caught the judges' attention and received good reviews from them. White performed an acoustic version of "Love Is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar in the next week; it also received good reviews. During the Lennon/McCartney week, she performed "Let It Be", a classic song by The Beatles. It was the most successful performance by her. Randy Jackson said it was a very heartfelt performance and Simon Cowell said it was one of the best of the night, believable and he thought Brooke picked good song choices in the past three weeks. It soon brought her tears of joy.
Andrew Lloyd Webber was impressed the most by White and predicted a big night for her,[9] but three lines into her performance of "You Must Love Me", White apologized, stopped the band, and re-started the song from the beginning. She later explained, "I lost the lyric". Simon Cowell stated that he would have done the same thing, had he been in her situation. It was the first time in the show's history that a contestant re-started a performance after a song had started (She previously started "Every Breath You Take" on an odd note, so she started over right at the beginning). Despite this, she was the third contestant on the April 23, 2008 results show to be named safe.
When White performed "
