Blake Shelton (born Blake Tollison Shelton, June 18, 1976 in Ada, Oklahoma[1]) is an American neotraditional country musician and singer-songwriter. In 2001, he made his debut with the single "Austin"; released as the lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, "Austin" went on to spend five weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This song was the first single from his gold-certified debut album, which also produced two more Top 20 hits.
His second and third albums, 2003's The Dreamer and 2004's Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill, were each certified gold as well. Each album also produced another Number One ("The Baby" from the former, and "Some Beach" from the latter), as well as several more chart hits. Shelton's fourth album, Pure BS, was issued in 2007, producing two more Top 20 singles. In early 2008, he issued a cover of pop singer Michael Bubl¨¦'s "Home"; this cover, which also entered the Top 10 in May 2008, will also be included on a re-issue of Pure BS, set for release later in 2008.
Overall, Shelton's four studio albums have produced a total of thirteen singles on the Hot Country Songs charts, including three Number Ones and two additional Top Ten hits.
Shelton moved to Nashville, Tennessee from his hometown of Ada, Oklahoma at the age of 17. After several years in Nashville, he signed to Giant Records in 1998. Shortly after the release of his debut single, "Austin", in 2001, Giant Records folded, and Warner Bros. Records picked up the single, which reached No. 1. He has followed up with two more number one songs and several other top 20 songs, all on Warner Bros.
Shelton released a DVD of music videos on October 19, 2004, titled Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill: Video Collection, and preceded his CD release, Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill. In 2005 he toured extensively in support of the album, including a coveted opening spot on Rascal Flatts's sold-out Here's to You tour, which also featured Shelly Fairchild.
Blake released his album, Pure BS, on May 1, 2007. The disc contains 11 songs and was produced by Bobby Braddock, Brent Rowan and Paul Worley. Blake's manager at the time of this album is Narvel Blackstock, husband of Reba McEntire.
In January of 2008, Blake announced that he would release a cover of jazz pop singer Michael Bubl¨¦'s single "Home"; Blake's version will be included on a re-issue of Pure BS.[2]
On December 18, 2005, several of Shelton's songs, including "Nobody But Me", appeared on the TV movie The Christmas Blessing, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Rebecca Gayheart, Angus T. Jones, and Rob Lowe. Blake had a small role at the end of the movie, playing himself at a benefit concert, singing "Nobody But Me". Blake appeared as one of the judges on the 2007 season of the television singing competition Nashville Star.
